Alere

Log reality.
Understand progress.

Alere brings your food, weight and training together, then helps you understand what’s actually changing, and what to do next.

Targets adapt to your stats. Uncertain food stays uncertain. And your coach works from what you actually logged.

Three daily target rings Calories, protein and net carbs, each with a target range. The rings fill blue as the day is logged and turn green once they reach their range.
  • Calories 1,530–1,790 kcal
  • Protein 120–147 g
  • Net carbs 13–26 g
An example day. Targets are calculated from your height, weight, age, activity and goal.

Your day, as ranges

Calories, protein and net carbs are calculated from your stats and your goal phase, whether that is a cut, maintenance or a gain. You don't type in targets. Change your weight or activity and they recalculate.

Each ring fills blue as you log and turns green once you're inside the range. A range is the honest version of a target: anywhere in it is a good day.

A coach that shows its work

Every day gets a thread. Weigh-ins, meals and workouts appear as they're logged, and the coach explains what they mean and what to do next. You can ask it questions.

The numbers in those lines come from your logs, not from the model. Assumptions are stated, and one bad day is treated as one bad day.

An example coach thread

  1. Weigh-in 186.5 lb, before food
  2. Official weigh-in: 186.5 lb. Your 7-day average is 187.4 lb, down 1.4 lb on last week.
  3. Lunch Restaurant burrito
  4. That one's hard to pin down, so it's logged as 850–1,250 kcal. With breakfast, today is 1,065–1,485 kcal, which leaves 45–725 kcal. A protein-heavy dinner keeps you in range.
  5. Workout Lower body, 42 min
  6. Squat went up to 185 lb × 5. You rated 180 lb × 5 as "right" last time, so the step was earned.

Log what you actually ate

Search the food catalog, scan a barcode, photograph a label, or save the meals you repeat. A home-cooked breakfast is precise. A restaurant burrito is not, so it gets a wide range instead of a made-up number.

Train with a plan that remembers

Follow your program and log sets as you go. Last session's numbers sit next to every exercise, so you know what to beat. After each set you rate it easy, right, hard or pain, and the next session's weights follow from those ratings.

Walks, runs and rides can be recorded in the app, or imported from your watch through Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android.

See the trend, not the noise

Your official weigh-in is the first one of the day, before you eat. Later readings are kept but left out of the trend, so a weigh-in after a big dinner can't fake a week of progress, or wreck one. When a salty meal or a long flight shows up on the next morning's scale, the trend treats it as one day.

The Trends screen: a weight trend line over daily weigh-ins, with weekly averages.

One bad day barely moves the trend
